Lund University the most popular choice for international students applying to Sweden

Lund University remains the most popular choice for international students wanting to study their Master’s degree in Sweden, with 1/3 of all applicants from the latest application round choosing Lund University programmes.

Of the total 64,317 students who applied to autumn 2016 Master’s programmes at Swedish universities, 21,448 chose Lund University programmes. This is an increase of 45% compared to the 14,821 students who applied for Lund University programme in the 2015 application round.

The next most popular university received 12,960 applications (Royal Institute of Technology) followed by Uppsala University with 11,803 applications.

This year Lund University received applications from 170 countries, with the most number of international applications made from Egypt (1,274), Bangladesh (1,071), the UK (998), Germany (823), China (780), India (695) and the USA (673).

Popular Master's degree programmes:

Of Sweden’s five most popular international Master’s degree programmes, four are Lund University programmes:

  • Master’s in International Marketing and Brand Management  (1,309 applications)
  • Master’s in International Development and Management (1,220 applications)
  • Mater’s in Public Health (1,156 applications)
  • Master’s in Finance (1,107 applications)

Lund University’s Master’s in International Strategic Management (a new programme starting autumn 2016) and Master’s in Entrepreneurship and Innovation also feature among the top 10 most popular international Master’s programmes in Sweden, with 1,083 and 993 applications respectively.

The deadline for students to apply for Master’s programmes at Swedish universities was 15 January. Applicants have until 1 February to finish submitting their supporting documents and to pay the application fee (or prove they are exempt) to University Admissions in Sweden.

Admission results are announced in late March.
