Housing guarantee – process and conditions

Non-EU/EEA students required to pay tuition fees admitted to full-time studies of at least 30 ECTS

Once you have been admitted to a programme at Lund University and accepted your place, you will be sent an email with more information regarding how to apply for housing.

Information on how to apply for housing can be found here. You will not be able to receive a housing offer until we have received your first tuition fee payment. When you apply, you will be able to state your housing preferences and the sooner you pay your tuition fee and the housing application can be confirmed, the more housing options will be available. Therefore, it is very important that you pay your tuition fee as soon as possible after you have accepted your place.

To be guaranteed housing at your arrival we ask you apply no later than the 15 June (for the autumn semester). If we receive your application later than that we cannot guarantee that a room is available for you when you arrive. You will instead receive the next available room.

Housing guarantee conditions

The housing guarantee means that you are guaranteed to receive a housing offer from LU Accommodation at Lund University. As a non-EU/EEA student required to pay tuition fees, you will be able to keep your housing for the normal duration of the Master’s or Bachelor’s programme to which you are admitted (1-3 years). However, in order to keep your housing guarantee the following conditions apply:

  • You accept the housing offer given by LU Accommodation
  • Payment of the first rent instalment and deposit is made on time (one month’s rent, normally SEK 3500-4500)
  • Payment of the remaining rent instalments and tuition fees are made on time
  • You do not cancel your housing contract during your study period
  • You fulfill the rental terms and conditions of the accommodation

Students on a US student loan or a full scholarship

As a Bachelor's or Master's student who has been granted a US student loan or a scholarship covering both tuition fees and living costs (e.g the Swedish Institute Scholarship), you are not required to pay your first rent instalment until you arrive in Lund. However, you still need to accept your housing offer within the deadline specified in the housing offer that has been sent to you.

UC-exchange students and students on a Linnaeus-Palme scholarship

Students coming to Lund on a Linnaeus-Palme scholarship or students from the University of California coming to Lund on the bilateral exchange agreement also have a housing guarantee. The terms and conditions for your housing payments will be stated in the information sent to you from your coordinator or contact person at Lund University.

Please note that it is very important that you keep deadlines for payments. If the payment is not made on time you will lose your housing guarantee.
