The process of applying for housing at the International Housing Office is slightly different depending on whether you are an exchange student coming to Lund through an exchange agreement with a partner university or if you are coming independently, to do a Master’s programme for instance.
To be eligible for a room through the International Housing Office we must have received notice from an international coordinator at Lund University that you have been accepted for studies. As an exchange student you apply for housing using the online application form for exchange studies. The application periods are 1 March - 25 April for the autumn semester and 1 September – 25 October for the spring semester.
If for some reason you need to apply outside the application period, please contact your study coordinator at Lund University or the International Housing Office to receive a link to the online application form. You will also have to attach a valid letter of acceptance to your application in these cases. Late applications will always be processed after the applications received on time.
Please note that even if you apply for housing on time, there is no guarantee that you will get housing through the International Housing Office!
Once you have applied through the online application form you can follow the status of your application. The first status of your application will be “received”. The updates on the “follow your application status” page will start at the earliest two weeks after the application period is over. After that, once we have updated your status, it will read either “confirmed unpaid” or “waiting list”. In both cases you will get more information about the next step. If you have stated preferences in your application then we will try to accommodate your request, but we cannot guarantee that we can offer you housing according to your wishes.
To be eligible for a room through the International Housing Office we must have received notice from the Admissions Office that you have been accepted as a student at Lund University. Please note that unless you are a student with a housing guarantee it is not certain that the International Housing Office can offer you a room even if you apply on time. You are advised to apply for housing as soon as you have received your proof of admission. Your study coordinator will send you a link to the online application form. In that email you will also be informed about the application period. Rooms will be allocated according to date of application, so always apply as soon as possible! Please note that if you are a student coming on your own (not through an exchange agreement) to do single subject courses it is unlikely that the International Housing Office will be able to offer you housing, especially during the autumn semester. Similarly, if you have applied for a programme/course in spring and therefore not been able to apply for housing until the summer, you will unfortunately not have priority for housing.
Once you have applied through the online application form you can follow the status of your application. During the summer (earliest in the middle of May), you will receive a status update online. The updated information will read either "confirmed unpaid" or "waiting list". In both cases you will get more information about the next step. If you have stated preferences in your application we will try to accommodate your request, but we cannot guarantee that we can offer you housing according to your wishes.
PhD students are not normally given priority for housing through the International Housing Office.
If we have vacant rooms during the spring semester there is a possibility that we will be able to help you. Please contact us for further information. Note that it is highly unlikely that we will have rooms available during the autumn semester.
We only offer housing for students at Lund University. If you are coming to Lund as a visiting researcher or similar please contact your department for help and advice regarding housing options.
