Mentors and Friends

Lund University welcomes approximately 3 500 international students every year. As an international student, you will have many opportunities to meet new people, get to know a new language and a different culture. You will experience new things, discover different aspects of life and meet people with different ideas, values and views on life.

International mentors

To help you settle in to Lund and get to know your way around, Lund University offers an International Mentor Programme. The mentors help new students with practical matters and introduce you to various student activities and everyday Swedish living. The mentor groups consists of three or four Swedish students (your mentors) and 15-20 international students, so there are plenty of opportunities to make new friends as soon as you arrive in Lund!

The "Friend Family" programme

Students who are interested in learning more about Swedish culture can also apply for a "Friend Family". The "Friend Family" programme connects international students with a family or individuals living in Lund, who are willing to welcome you as an occasional guest.  For example, a student might be invited to join a family for a home-cooked dinner, to participate in a Swedish tradition like Midsummer, to join a family on an outing or fun social event, or to meet together for "fika" (coffee and cake) from time to time.
