Temperature control of a utility system for an Open Plate Reactor

Author

Summary, in English

A new reactor type has been designed by Alfa Laval AB,the open plate reactor (OPR). It combines good mixing with high heat transfer capacity. With the new open plate reactor, highly exothermic reactions can be produced using more concentrated reactants. In the paper, the reactor type is presented and a model from first principles is derived. The paper concerns the control properties of the platereactor in general and its cooling system, here calledthe utility system, in particular. A temperaturecontrol system for the utility system is presented together with data from experiments done on the real OPR together with the utility system.
