L'atteggiamento verso il dialetto veneziano tra i giovani veneziani. Un'indagine sociolinguistica.

ABSTRACT

Scopo e quadro generale: Nella presente tesi viene investigata la situazione sociolinguistica del dialetto veneziano, tramite un questionario rivolto a giovani veneziani tra i 14 ed i 25 anni.

Venezia è una città internazionale che ospita milioni di turisti ogni anno, mentre la città perde sempre più residenti. Il dialetto veneziano era la lingua della Repubblica di Venezia e possiede diversi criteri per essere definito come lingua, ma non è stabilito politicamente come lingua ufficiale. Recentemente, la Regione Veneto ha presentato una proposta di legge con lo scopo di tutelare i dialetti in Veneto e introdurli come materie scolastiche facoltative.

Risultati e conclusioni: Cinquantasette informanti hanno soddisfatto i criteri di inclusione dello studio. Tra di loro, il 95 % dice di capire il veneziano ed il 79 % di parlarlo. Il 62 % vuole insegnare il dialetto ai propri figli anche se una gran parte pensa che il veneziano non sia qualcosa che si deve insegnare o studiare, ma qualcosa che si impara automaticamente. Valutando questo, il veneziano non è considerato a rischio di estinzione secondo i criteri presentati nella tesi. Il veneziano viene usato per lo più in contesti amichevoli e familiari. C'è anche un'usanza in linea con la ricerca sul linguaggio giovanile. Il 65 % degli informanti crede che sia più importante imparare una lingua straniera che il veneziano e si può speculare se il dialetto avrebbe successo come materia scolastica facoltativa. Con la comunicazione elettronica potrebbe arrivare un nuovo interesse per il veneziano scritto ed il 75 % usa il dialetto per tale comunicazione; il 42 % di questi scrive il testo intero in veneziano.

ABSTRACT IN ENGLISH

Background and aim: In the present thesis the sociolinguistic situation of the Venetian dialect is investigated, by way of a questionnaire among young Venetians between the ages of 14 and 25 years. Venice is an international city that is visited by millions of tourists every year; at the same time, many native Venetians leave the city permanently. Venetian was the language of the Republic of Venice and fulfil many criteria to be called language, however it has never been defined a language politically. Recently, the region of Veneto have presented a bill aiming at preserving the dialect and introducing it as an optional subject in school.

Results and conclusions: Fifty-seven informants fulfilled the inclusion criteria. Among these ninety-five per cent state that they understand Venetian and seventy-nine per cent that they are able to speak it. Sixty-two per cent want to teach their children Venetian, even though a part of the informants thinks that the dialect is not something that needs to be taught or studied, but something that is learned automatically. Considering the before mentioned facts, Venetian is not considered endangered according to the criteria presented in the thesis. Venetian is used mainly among friends and family. There is also a use in accordance with research on youth language. Sixty-five per cent of the informants think that it is more important to learn a foreign language than the Venetian dialect and hence it is uncertain if Venetian will be successful as an optional subject in school. Electronic communication may bring a new interest in written Venetian and seventy-five per cent of the young Venetians in this material use dialect for that type of communication, of these forty-two per cent write the entire text in Venetian.
