Cixi - Draktronens Härskarinna

Author

  • Charlotte Colliander

Summary, in English

Empress Dowager Cixi governed China during the final five decades of the Qing dynasty. She was for many years depicted as a cruel megalomaniac, lately Cixi has been described in a more nuanced way. This paper seeks to analyze how a selection of sources describe a number of specific events in connection with Cixi and the Guangxu-emperor and his concubine Zhenfei. The objective is to discuss what this reveals about Cixi as an individual and evaluate whether it is possible for historians to arrive at a more truthful picture.
