Summary, in English

The present study reports the reliability of the Swedish versions of Brief COPE (Carver, 1997) and LOT-R (Scheir, Carver & Bridges, 1994). Brief COPE consists of 28 items measuring 14 different coping strategies. LOT-R consists of sex items assessing generalized optimism. Altogether 332 undergraduate students (236 women and 93 men) participated in the study. The reliability coefficients indicated that both the majority of the Brief COPE scales, as well as LOT-R possessed adequate reliabilities. Cronbach’s alphas ranged from .58 to .92 for Brief COPE whereas the alpha for LOT-R was .81. The factor structures of the Swedish versions of Brief COPE and LOT-R are also reported. Overall, the results of the study support the use of the Swedish versions of Brief COPE and LOT-R.
