Summary, in English
Since the year of 2015 the Swedish Christian Democratic Party advocates a future Swedish NATO membership. Earlier, the party has not supported the idea of joining the multinational political and military organization, but have due to altered defence and security policy circumstances changed party opinion. The aim of this bachelor thesis is thus to investigate and analytically discuss the Swedish Christian Democratic Party ́s altered political standpoint regarding a future Swedish NATO membership. This essay intends to analyse the study’s empirical material by a qualitative process-tracing case study method. Based upon Gunnar Sjöblom ́s theory of party strategies and Jonas Hinnfors rational analysis model, the study ́s theoretical framework will explain incentives behind the party ́s decision-making, strategic or ideological, on three arenas.
The main results illustrates through the theoretical perspective, that members of the party has advocated a future Swedish NATO membership based upon initially predominated strategic decision-making, rather than a ideological decision-making, which have been adopted during recent years.
