Summary, in English
Westphal's thesis contains a summary of earlier structural analyses of Hebrews. Her own discourse analysis structures Hebrews into three parts 1) 1:1–4:16; 2) 4:11–7:28 and 8:1–10:25; 3) 10:19–13:25. Westphal characterizes Heb 4:11-16 and 10:19-25 as "overlapping" parts and as keys to the structure and meaning of Hebrews. The structure according to this approach is not new. A shortcoming in this thesis is the one-sidedness of the literature used. Almost only English literature is considered. According to the present reviewer she has not convincingly succeeded to show the connection between form and meaning, using almost only the exhortations as keys to the interpretation of Hebrews.
