Lund University and North America

Agreements with American universities

There are 58 active agreements with the US in our database, but only a few of these are central agreements. The central agreements are with the University of California, North Carolina State University – Raleigh NC, Santa Clara University, the University of North Carolina Chapel Hill and the University of Virginia.

We also have a central agreement with the University of Illinois, but this is administered by the Faculty of Engineering (LTH).

We are also about to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with the University of Connecticut and some faculties will also sign a separate student exchange agreement with the University of Connecticut. Our cooperation with the University of California is the oldest and most extensive when it comes to student exchange.

The University of Virginia is a member of the Universitas 21 (U21) network.

Agreements with Canadian universities

Lund University has around 30 agreements with Canadian universities and nine of these are central agreements. Eight of these are the bilateral agreements with Concordia University, the University of Guelph, McGill University, the University of Ottawa, the University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, the University of British Columbia and Queen’s University, and one agreement is with the CREPUQ network. The CREPUK network is a network of around 15 universities in the Québec region. Concordia University and McGill are also members of the network.

The University of British Columbia and McGill University are also members of U21 and that makes them prioritised partners.

Networks

Universitas 21 (U21)

Lund University is a member of Universitas 21 (U21). The cooperation within U21 includes exchange for researchers, students, teachers and administrative staff. Joint summer schools and subject-oriented projects are also a part of U21's activities.

MAUI and other networks in the US

At a central level Lund University participates in two networks for exchange studies in the US; the MAUI network (through the Utrecht Network) and the Öresund-North Carolina network. In addition, the Faculty of Science participates in TASSEP, a network for studies in mathematics and science subjects.

CREPUQ

We are also a member of the CREPUQ network. Nine Canadian universities participate in CREPUQ.

Lund University’s strategy in the region

Three partner universities in the region are members of U21: McGill University, the University of British Columbia in Canada and the University of Virginia in the US. According to Lund University’s internationalisation policy, the universities within the U21 network are highly prioritised partners.
