The course is designed as a combination of three modules, a conceptually based introduction into purchasing, an in depth study into a specific issue chosen by the student, and finally, a field study on purchasing management in a case company.

In the first module, which is based on lectures and presentations given by managers from the purchasing profession, the objective is to help establish a basic understanding of the field and the conceptual models used. The strategic change in the supply management field linked to new frames of reference will be discussed.

In the second module, the intention is that the students from a specific perspective or, based on a certain issue, conduct an in-depth study of research based articles and reports in the chosen field in order to gain a thorough understanding. The findings are presented in a separate written report.

The third module is a study of a the purchasing and supply management within a working company the local business community. In the field study, the students are supposed to apply their theoretical knowledge to the analysis of a purchasing function and its operations in a specific company.
