Abstract English In 1982, the Swedish diplomat and Turkologist Gunnar Jarring (1907–2002) donated his unique collection of Eastern Turkestan manuscripts to the Lund University Library. The Jarring Collection at Lund is the third biggest collection of Eastern Turkic manuscripts in the world and consists of 560 pieces, many of which are miscellanies. It is a broad collection and represents the history and culture of Eastern Turkestan (present-day Xinjiang) from the 16th to the 20th century.
From 1982 to 1994, Gunnar Jarring worked on a handwritten catalogue of the manuscripts. The catalogue could only be consulted in situ, and Jarring’s intention to print it was never realised. In 2005, the University Library received a generous grant from the Marianne and Marcus Wallenberg Foundation, for the purpose of preserving the Jarring Collection. The first step of this preservation was to make suitable boxes for the manuscripts and a condition survey. Jarring’s handwritten catalogue has been digitised and made accessible on-line (provisional homepage: http://laurentius.lub.lu.se/jarring/). The next step will be to have a selection of the manuscripts digitised and published on-line.
