The course provides the students with basic knowledge and understanding of Yiddish morphology, syntax and vocabulary. The students train their proficiency in spoken Yiddish. Students become familiar with simple authentic Yiddish texts in both their original form and in translation, and acquire the ability to translate short texts. An overview of the ways in which the Yiddish language has been used throughout history is also included on the course. The course consists of the following sub-courses: 1. Grammar, Reading Comprehension and Translation, 5 credits, 2. Oral and Written Language Proficiency, 5 credits, 3. Language History, 5 credits.
