Abstract English	This essay examines how the public talk about violence in close relationship discourse, and how this reflects on the view of typical victims and perpetrators. The premise is that gender should be viewed as floating and like Judith Butler I would like to focus on how the perceived naturalness of gender is supported by a defined other. The public discourse in my paper consisted of my empirical material in form of a prevalence study, a governmental study, the government’s action plan and report by the Crime Prevention Council (Brå). My research handles with the exclusion mechanisms and gender beliefs that are included in the public discourse of the concept of domestic violence and what pictures or expectations of the typical victim/perpetrator it creates. To answer my question I have used the discourse analytical tools on my data and on relevant previous research. My final conclusion is that there is a lack of knowledge and research in understanding of who the victims and perpetrators of domestic violence are.
