International networks
Lund University is a member of a number of Nordic, European and world-wide networks.
Universitas 21 (U21)
Universitas 21 (U21) is a global network comprising 25 research-intensive, comprehensive and prominent universities in 17 countries.
The aim of the network is to promote and facilitate mobility between member universities and to provide a platform for collaboration and development projects in education, research and administration. The network also facilitates the exchange of information and the sharing of best practice and expertise.
League of European Research Universities (LERU)
LERU was founded in 2002 by some of Europe’s leading universities, including the universities of Cambridge, Oxford, Helsinki and Heidelberg. LERU’s aims are to strengthen European research, education and innovation and to develop best practice through the mutual exchange of experiences.
Membership of LERU is by invitation only. The criteria for membership are research volume, high quality of doctoral education, and peer-recognised academic excellence. Lund University became a member in 2004.
European University Alliance for Global Health – EUGLOH
The European Universities Initiative is an initiative introduced and predominantly funded by the EU that is to strengthen the strategic partnerships between European universities.
EUGLOH – European University Alliance for Global Health – is a part of the programme in which Lund University together with the Université Paris-Saclay (coordinator, France), University of Szeged (Hungary), University of Porto (Portugal) and Ludwig-Maximilian Universität of Munich (Germany) will collaborate on a three-year pilot project focused on global health and related fields.

Nordlys
Nordlys is a cross-disciplinary network within the Nordplus programme, with participation by 37 universities in the Nordic countries. Nordlys is aimed at students and teaching staff who want to study or work in subjects in which their institution does not have agreements/networks with universities in the other Nordic countries.
Southern African–Nordic Centre (SANORD)
SANORD is a member organisation that connects universities in the Nordic countries and southern Africa. The aim of the network is to facilitate, extend and strengthen collaboration and contact between higher education institutions in southern Africa and the Nordic countries. SANORD was formed in 2007 and has member universities in the following countries:
- Botswana
- Denmark
- Finland
- Malawi
- Namibia
- Norway
- Sweden
- South Africa
- Zambia
- Zimbabwe
SANORD is coordinated by the secretariat at the University of the Western Cape, South Africa.
There are three member universities in Sweden: Uppsala University (which is one of the founder members), Lund University and Karlstad University.
Swedish South Asian Studies Network (SASNET)
SASNET is an interdisciplinary platform for research, education and information about southern Asia, which aims to encourage Swedish researchers to collaborate with researchers in southern Asia and worldwide.
SASNET is funded by Lund University, but is also accessible to researchers and students at other universities in Sweden and the other Nordic countries.
Scholars at Risk (SAR)
Lund University is a member of Scholars at Risk (SAR), a network of more than 250 member institutions in 30 countries that works to help threatened academics and promote academic freedom worldwide. This sits well with Lund University’s values of human rights, respect, tolerance and speaking out against injustice.
Lund University and the other Swedish SAR members (Gothenburg, Dalarna, Malmö, Stockholm and Uppsala universities) have started a Swedish SAR network.
Faculty specific networks
Since 2000, the Faculty of Engineering at Lund University is a member of T.I.M.E. (Top Industrial Managers for Europe) and MAGHALAES, offering student mobility in Latin America, Caribbean and Europe.

Network affiliations at the School of Economics and Management
ACCESS
The ACCESS platform was initiated by Lund University, Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Universidad de Chile and Uppsala University. The framework of the platform was collectively agreed upon in November 2016 when the four parties signed a Letter of Intent. The ACCESS platform aims to facilitate and deepen the academic relations between Chile and Sweden as well as to enable researchers, staff and students to become more connected to each other.
CISB
The Swedish-Brazilian Research and Innovation Centre (CISB) is a private non-profit association that acts as an international hub to promote dialogue and offer a prosperous collaboration environment between Sweden and Brazil within research and innovation.
GCUB
The Coimbra Group of Brazilian Universities (GCUB) is a civil association of private, non-profit purpose assets, academic, scientific and cultural character, composed of 83 Brazilian institutions and several international partner universities. GCUB was founded on October 29, 2008 in Brasilia DF.
CALIE
In order to strengthen the potential for higher education and research to respond to long-term challenges, the university leadership of four Swedish universities—Lund University, University of Gothenburg, Stockholm University and Uppsala University—have joined together to explore the topics of academic leadership and renewal of education in the collaborative project CALIE: the Sweden-USA Project for Collaboration, Academic Leadership and Innovation in Higher Education. Through joint workshops and seminars with Stanford University, University of California at Berkeley and University of Washington, they will share experience, best practices and strategies in order to inspire change in the participating institutions and to develop a platform for further academic collaboration.
