Large grant for research on the genetics of alcoholism
Kristina Sundquist, together with Professor Kenneth Kendler's research group at Virginia Commonwealth University, will continue their successful study of how genetic and environmental factors interact at the onset of alcohol dependence. The project will use national and regional data from various sources and advanced analytical methods to dig deeper into how this interaction works.
Kristina Sundquist already has a large ongoing grant from the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute, NIH, for research on premature birth and its impact on cardiovascular disease. Another ongoing project, funded by the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism, identifies risk factors for suicide in substance abuse.
“I feel very honored by the renewed confidence in our research. This is a result of the fantastic teamwork and analytical expertise that exists within the research group”, says Professor Kristina Sundquist.
“The research will provide important knowledge about the causes, prevention and treatment of alcohol abuse”, concludes Kristina Sundquist.
