Why did you choose Lund University?

I am impressed by Lund University’s commitment to fostering intellectual spaces for exchange that value the plurality of human past experiences to illuminate the present and future.

Aspiring to connect with a broader academic community and its vision of engaged humanities, I believe there is no better place to combine research, collaboration, mentoring, and supervision than Lund University.

Can you briefly describe your current research?

My broader theoretical interest lies in bridging the conceptual divide between land and sea by examining their deep historical and contemporary interconnections.

Through a comparative historical ethnography of Austronesian speakers’ Indigenous knowledge, I explore how underground water access fosters human connections and integrates terrestrial and aquatic realms across generations, cultures, and planetary changes.

What will be your main research focus during your time at Lund University?

I will focus on the relationship between sea levels and human occupation, aiming to re-read often disconnected histories of the globe, Indigenous peoples, and the planet.

By theorizing underground water flows as sites of history-making, I seek to advance the idea of water as not only a human right but also a planetary right, highlighting its role in sustaining habitability beyond the human realm.
