Biomedicine - Bachelor's Programme

In that case, Biomedicine is for you! The programme is tightly linked to ongoing cutting-edge research within Biomedicine, and our teachers are also active researchers. You will thus study in an environment that inte­grates education and research.

Current issues of interest to biomedical scientists:

• How can we rapidly respond to and develop diagnostics, treatments and vaccines for future pandemics?

• How can nanoparticles be used in cancer drugs?

• How can we combat bacterial resistance to antibiotics?

• Can we create our own spare organs using stem cell tech­nology?

• How do genetics, environment, diet and lifestyle affect health and disease?

Programme modules/courses

The programme focuses on learning and understanding bi­omedicine, from molecular biology to human physiology in health and disease.

The courses of the first year cover biochem­istry, genetics, cell- and tissue biology.

The second year starts with courses in developmental biology and stem cells, continues with courses on human physiology and immunology in health and disease, and ends with a courses in the molecular basis of disease, pharmacology and drug discovery.

The third year starts with a course in translational and molecular medicine, continues with a thesis preparatory course and ends with a 30 ECTS thesis project performed in a research lab.

Career Prospects

The Biomedicine Programme gives you the opportunity to advance in many areas after your Bachelor’s degree. You will become a specialist in biomedical problem-solving and act as an important link between new biological knowledge and practical medical use.

The vast majority of graduates choose to continue studying toward a Master’s degree. Biomedical scientists can work with, for example:

• research in academia or the life science industry
• expert support for authorities and companies
• drug discovery, development and clinical trials
• bioentrepreneurship and market analysis
• medical writing and scientific journalism

 For eligibility you need no Swedish language proficiency.
