What Wensi says about the Master's in Physics, Biological Physics and Computational Biology

Wensi Zhu from China
Why did you choose this programme?
“I chose this programme because I have a BSc degree in physics, and I wanted to explore my potential in both physics and related fields. Sweden is famous for its non-hierarchical nature and gender-equal society, which attracted me the most. Lund University is also famous for its cross-disciplinary research and international educational system. From another perspective, Lund is a student city where you can meet people from different backgrounds, so coming here is a great opportunity to experience a multicultural environment.”
What is the best thing about your programme?
“The best thing is that it is an interdisciplinary programme, so I could take courses from different subjects for two years. I recommend this programme to students who want to take combined courses from mathematics, biophysics and programming.”
Have you had an opportunity for practical work here?
“Yes, I did a summer internship at my department last July.”
How is it studying as an international student in Sweden?
“I think Sweden is a perfect place for English-speaking foreigners. Most people can speak English fluently and they are quite friendly.”
Are you involved in any extracurricular activities?
“I like to go to the gym or do some outdoor activities. Lund is a student city, so there are many student events and student unions where you will never feel bored. You can easily get involved in student activities.”
What are you planning to do after your studies?
“I want to deepen my knowledge in related fields, so I will start PhD studies in Stockholm afterwards. In the short term, one of my goals is to continue developing my professional skills, after which I would like to start my career in the artificial intelligence industry.”
To what extent did your degree programme prepare you for a career in your field?
“I got much experience of applying statistical algorithms in programming. I think this will make me more competitive when applying for a job. Besides this, a great network based on a global platform also helps me a lot.”
Do you think this programme opens doors to relevant positions?
“If one has studied in the same field continuously, it is not hard to find a relevant position.”
Do you have any advice for those planning to study at Lund?
“Learn to ride a bike, and prepare for outdoor activities.”
