Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation student ambassador Emelie
Introducing Emelie
Hello! My name is Emelie and I am the student ambassador for the Master’s programme in Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation. I am here to help you out with any questions you might have about the Master’s and studying in Lund. Please note that I cannot answer questions about the application process, scholarships or residence permits.
My experience so far
My background is in social science. More specifically, I studied the Bachelor’s in International Relations at King’s College London, focusing on gender, international development and African politics. After my Bachelor’s, I wanted to study a Master’s related to humanitarian response and I browsed universities across the world to find the perfect programme. The fact that this Master’s offered at Lund University included not only disaster management but also a climate change component made it stand out among the other options, and this inspired me to choose it.
Before starting this Master’s, I wish that I had reflected a bit upon how it could be different from my Bachelor’s. As I did my Bachelor’s in the UK, I was not familiar with the Swedish structure, and thus this took some time to get used to. In addition, the methods and approach to studying at LTH are seemingly very different from what I was previously used to within the War Studies department at King’s. Even if I could not have known this before starting, I wish I had entered the Master’s with a clearer expectation of it being very different to my Bachelor’s, rather than being confused by this.
Despite the initial challenges, I am happy with choosing this Master’s, as I feel that it has prepared me, and continues to prepare me, for the career that I am striving for once I have graduated!
