Description

We focus our research on joint injury, mainly of the knee. Sports is a common cause of knee injury with the most severe injury being cruciate ligament injury. I the short perspective, these injuries cause pain, swelling, instability and decreased activity level which often result in decreased quality of life. In the longer term, joint injury severely increases the risk of osteoarthritis although the driving mechanisms are not well understood. Our research is unique in that we study consequences of traumatic joint injury in both the short- and long term. Consequently, we are active in the fields of sports medicine, orthopedic surgery and rheumatology. We use the patient perspective as well as advanced magnetic resonance imagining methodology, radiology and molecular analysis in our laboratory. By linking molecular change in body fluids to small structural changes in bone and cartilage we aim to find physical and chemical explanations to symptoms and disease development.
