The drinking culture of China is well integrated in the Chinese society. In modern China, alcohol plays an important part of the dinner, at the wedding, banquet, when meeting with friends, together with family as well as in the business world. The winner of the Nobel Prize in Literature 2012 was the Chinese author Mo Yan. One of his published books is Jiuguo, a book that is said to describe the corruption in China with a satirical tone. The aim of this thesis is to analyse how Mo Yan is portraying the Chinese drinking culture and to what extent it reflects reality.
