Vem får vara Spider-Man? Mångfald, representation och kanon genom multiversumberättande i Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse (2023)

Author

  • Ally Hallbäck

Summary, in English

This analysis examines how Sony's animated Spider-Verse films use multiverse storytelling to expand and explore who gets to be Spider-Man. The character and the superhero genre as a whole have long primarily represented white American men, but Spider-Verse proves through its diversity of Spider-People of different ethnicities, nationalities, gender identities and visual styles that anyone can be Spider-Man in the vast multiverse the films present. This analysis will shed light on how this diversity is portrayed. It will also shed light on how Spider-Verse through its multiverse storytelling includes an allegory of how everyone hasn’t always been allowed to be Spider-Man; that fans and creators of fiction have wanted to stick to canon and what has already been established around the character instead of letting anyone other than Peter Parker be Spider-Man.
