Why did you choose Lund University?
I was drawn to Lund University’s strong interdisciplinary ambition to understand the human mind.
The combination of philosophical expertise in Lund and the neurocognitive research environment in Aarhus creates an exceptional platform for advancing foundational questions about consciousness and its potential realization in artificial systems.
Can you briefly describe your current research?
My research investigates the nature of consciousness through combined experimental, theoretical, and neurorehabilitation approaches.
I study how conscious experience relates to brain organization, particularly in patients recovering from neurological disorders, and use these insights to develop principled frameworks for evaluating whether artificial systems could, in principle, possess subjective experience.
What will be your main research focus during your time at Lund University?
I will focus on developing conceptual and empirical tools for understanding whether consciousness can be multiply realized across different physical substrates. By integrating philosophical analysis with empirical work on neurorehabilitation, I aim to derive general principles relevant to assessing the possibility of consciousness in artificial systems.
