Innovative environments

Lund has a long tradition of innovation and the networks between the University, the public sector, industry and society in general are strong. The surrounding region is dynamic and there are strong innovative environments in the immediate vicinity of the University.

Ideon Science Park

Ideon Science Park, Sweden's first research park, is a testimony to Lund University's innovative strength.

Ideon was founded in 1983, right next to the University, through a collaboration between

  • Lund University
  • the former Malmöhus County
  • Lund Municipality and
  • the business community.

The aim was to link research to innovation and entrepreneurs.

Of the approximately 1 200 companies that have been active here since the start, a significant number have originated in research at Lund University.

Ideon and its immediate surroundings have a long tradition of creating innovations within:

  • life science
  • software
  • Internet of Things – IoT
  • telecommunications
  • energy and
  • new materials.

  • Malmö City,

as well as a generous contribution from businessman Mats Paulsson.

Medicon Village offers a unique environment for life science by integrating research, innovation and business to create value for people's health and better lives.

It is home to over 170 member organisations with more than 2 600 employees. Medicon Village also employs several of Lund University's researchers, including more than 200 cancer researchers.
