In this course, you will build the knowledge needed to analyse how organisations create culture and use various forms of control to guide performance. You will explore how organisations can be understood and managed from multiple perspectives, with particular emphasis on values, norms, structures and governance – insights that are key whether you pursue a specialist role or a formal managerial position.

Course literature FEKH47 (PDF, New tab)In the first half of the course, you will engage with core theories of organisational culture and control through interactive, seminar-based learning. Discussions, group tasks and case examples will help you connect theoretical concepts to real-world organisational challenges. Collaborative work with classmates will strengthen your communication and analytical skills.
In the second half of the course, you will deepen your understanding by exploring and comparing academic research on organisational culture and control. Through guided workshops, you will learn how to search for relevant literature, evaluate the quality of different sources and identify key themes and debates in the field. This work will support you in developing your own literature review, strengthening your analytical skills and your confidence in academic writing – valuable tools for future studies and professional careers.
This course is ideal for students who want to understand how organisations function from the inside. It provides a strong foundation for careers such as project coordinator, HR specialist, team leader, management consultant, or roles in communication, operations, and other fields where a solid grasp of culture, behaviour, and organisational dynamics is essential.
Prerequisites
Business Administration 1-60 credits, including a basic course in business administration 1-30 credits (FEKA10) or the equivalent, and a course in business administration intermediate level 31-60 credits (FEKG11, FEKG21, FEKG51, FEKG61 and FEKG91) or the equivalent
Selection criteria
Seats are allocated according to: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 20 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 10 %, number of previous ECTS at application deadline (up to 165): 70 %.

are required to pay tuition fees. You pay an instalment of the tuition fee in advance of each
semester.
