This course offers hands-on experience in development-related work and serves as preparation for your bachelor’s thesis. You choose one of three tracks: fieldwork in a developing country, an internship in a development organisation, or a research overview conducted at Lund University.

Regardless of track, you’ll deepen your understanding of development processes and reflect on economic, political and organisational contexts. You’ll learn to collect and analyse material, communicate your findings and connect practical experience with theoretical perspectives.
The course is for you if you want to combine academic studies with real-world engagement. It gives insight into how development work functions in practice – and how you can contribute through analysis, understanding and critical thinking.

During the course, you work independently within your chosen track. If you do fieldwork, you’ll collect material on-site and document your experience in a field diary. If you choose an internship, you’ll spend around ten weeks in an organisation and reflect on your experience in a practice diary.

If you opt for the research overview, you’ll study classical and contemporary texts in your subject area and gather secondary data that may support your thesis.

You’ll also participate in seminars and group exercises. Assessment is based on written assignments that document and analyse your experience. The course trains you to work independently, think analytically and communicate your insights – both orally and in writing.
