You will gain an advanced overview of health economics with a focus on policy-relevant questions such as:
- Why are healthcare expenditures increasing in society?
- How does health in early life affect future opportunities?
- Is new medical technology worth the cost?
- What health effects arise from pandemics?
- What are the health impacts of working conditions?
We will discuss inequalities in health and access to care, as well as the relationship between health and economic development.
The course is based on current scientific articles and aims to develop your ability to critically evaluate and independently analyse research on health. Health economic issues are addressed from a global perspective, so your understanding will not be limited to Swedish conditions. You will be trained to apply economic tools to health and healthcare questions, with particular emphasis on empirical methods. The course is especially suitable for those who wish to work in advanced analysis within the healthcare sector, policy evaluation or research.
