In this course you will learn about fundamental macroeconomic concepts such as GDP, inflation and unemployment. You will study how these concepts are defined and measured, and how they are determined on different time horizons. Thereby, you will be able to analyse the effects on the economy from different types of events as well as from different types of policy measures. You will gain insight into the difficulties of achieving policy goals. You will also learn about the role of the central bank in the economy, different types of exchange rate regimes and why some countries are rich and some are poor.

Teaching consists of lectures and exercise sessions. You will get an orientation of all the theories and concepts in the lectures. A couple of exercise sessions are computer labs where you work with data based exercises. In the remaining exercises sessions, you practice problem solving in small groups. 

Assessment consists of a final written exam, a group project, a discussion seminar and home assignments. In the assignments, you use Microsoft Excel to analyse data and visualise the results of your calculations.
