Risk assessment is a central part of work in ecotoxicology—that is, how toxic substances affect living organisms—as well as in nature conservation and environmental and public health protection. In this course, you will learn to identify and analyze risks related to, for example, chemical exposure, species extinction, invasive species, and the spread of diseases.
You will practice applying established methods for managing risks—from identifying potential hazards and assessing exposure to evaluating uncertainties and communicating risks clearly. An important focus is also on how risks are perceived in society—and why scientific knowledge sometimes takes a back seat to emotional responses.
This course is suitable for those who want to specialize in environmental science or environmental and health protection, particularly with a focus on climate strategy, ecotoxicology, or computational science.
The course combines lectures with seminars, exercises, and projects. Work is carried out both individually and in groups, with several written and oral assignments. The course concludes with a written exam.

To be admitted to the course, 90 credits in science courses are required. English 6/English B.
