The international laws, agreements and treaties regulating the global trade are currently subject to dramatic changes as a period of free and open trade is under significant scrutiny from major actors in the world, Over the last 50+ years the EU has developed a far-reaching set of provisions for the promotion of markets and commercial interests, within EU and abroad, in parallel to bilateral trade and investment agreements. At the contemporary core of this is competition policy, sustainability legislation, protection of intellectual property rights and adherence to a rules-based international trading system.
The specialisation offers two subspecialisations: Intellectual Property Rights or Sustainability and Labour Rights. The subspecialisation Intellectual Property Rights includes aspects of competition law, data protection and digital markets. The Labour Rights subspecialisation monitors social sustainability in global supply chains and ILO provision, but also EU labour law for the member states and the internal market.
Students are free to choose electives within the track but are encouraged to prioritise and stay with one subspecialisation.
Alumni can be found in consultancy firms, as investment managers for ESG investments in international banks, as policy advisers in connection to the EU lawmakers in Brussels, working with NGOs and in a variety of corporate positions.
