This course introduces you to feminist approaches to research methods. You learn how gender studies scholars design research, collect and analyse data, and reflect on the ethical and political choices involved. The course helps you understand how theory, methods and knowledge are connected and how to apply this in your own research.

You will explore topics such as:

  • Feminist and gender studies research methods
  • The relationship between theory, methods and ethics
  • Formulating research questions and selecting methods
  • Ethical dilemmas in feminist research  

The course is ideal if you are interested in gender, social justice, or critical perspectives in the social sciences and humanities. 

Study environment

The Division of Gender Studies at the Department of Sociology is located in the beautiful Campus Paradis  in central Lund. Our newly renovated building, Gamla lungkliniken, has lecture halls, group rooms and study areas. The Social Sciences Library (Sambib) and the University Library (UB) are also located in the vicinity.

As a student, you are welcome to participate in the division's open seminars and other events.

You will learn through a mix of lectures, seminars and hands-on workshops. These sessions are designed to help you engage with key texts, discuss ideas with others, and apply what you’ve learned in practical ways.

Assessment includes an individual take-home exam and participation in workshops and seminars.

Prerequisites

To be admitted to the course, the student must hold a bachelor’s degree in social science or humanities. Oral and written proficiency in English equivalent to English 6/B (advanced) from Swedish upper secondary school is a requirement. International qualifications will be assessed in accordance with national guidelines.

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
