The course focuses on topics such as the decline of welfare systems, border controls, nationalism and the rise of far-right movements.
You will work with theories and perspectives that help explain these changes, including postcolonial and intersectional approaches. The aim is to give you a deeper understanding of how ideas about nation and belonging shape people’s lives in Europe today.
The course includes topics such as:
- Gender regimes and how they are changing in Europe
- Migration, borders and border control
- Nationalism and the rise of far-right movements
- Sexuality and family in political debates
- Austerity and political economy
- Post-colonial and intersectional perspectives on nation and community
The course is worth 7.5 credits and runs every autumn semester. It is taught in English as a stand-alone course.
