The course is conducted in English and comprises five (5) ECTS credits. During the autumn term, the course is part-time (33% study pace) and runs over half a term of 10 weeks.
The course consists of five (5) modules that are conducted remotely with professionally pre-recorded video lectures and self-correcting tests. Each module concludes with a reflective assignment that is graded. If you have any questions before or during the course, don’t hesitate to call or email us, and we will be happy to help you.
The course is suitable for those who wish to supplement their education and are curious about how global environmental challenges affect the legal system and what obligations states have under international law. No prior legal knowledge is required.
The course deals with how international law addresses global challenges in the form of climate change and environmental degradation that affect people's lives, well-being, dignity and security. You will gain insight into the historical development of environmental justice, conventions and international agreements. The course also covers key concepts such as biodiversity and global supply chains and analyses the legal frameworks for sustainability in practice.
Information about registration
If admitted, you will receive an email shortly before the course starts with all the information you need to register for the course at the email address you provided on Antagning.se.
If you have not received an email by the day before the course starts, check your spam folder. If you cannot find the email there, please contact us.
It is important that you register for the course as soon as possible to secure your place. Registration is done via student.ladok.se. All information can be found in the welcome letter.
The course is divided into five (5) modules and is conducted remotely via the Canvas learning platform. It is designed to be flexible and easily accessible. You will watch professionally pre-recorded video lectures in various areas of law, which you can view at your convenience. At the same time, you will read course literature and legal texts. The course literature consists of a compendium of academic articles from academic journals, websites and selected chapters in books. The compendium is provided digitally on the course page in Canvas.
Self-correcting tests
To support your learning, you have self-correcting multiple-choice quizzes, that you can take several times. These are not part of the examination, but help you review and understand the content.
Examination
Each of the five (5) modules has a corresponding compulsory reflective assignment. The final grade is based on a weighted average of your results for each assignment.
Early termination
If you do not wish to complete the course, you have the option of early termination, by withdrawing within three weeks of the starting date. Early termination allows you to reapply for the course. If you withdraw later, you cannot reapply for the course. You can either withdraw early via student.ladok.se or by sending an email to environmentaljustice [at] jur [dot] lu [dot] se.
Re-registration
You must re-register if you wish to retake a course that you were previously registered for and did not complete.
You can only be re-registered if there is space available and during a term when the course is being offered. Our online courses are almost always full. In that case, re-registration is not possible.
However, if you wish to be examined on any of the papers, you do not need to re-register. In that case, please contact us.
