“User-centred is off centre” might at first seem counter-intuitive to traditional HCI theory. However, in this HCI-design course, you will challenge conventional ways of designing and thinking.
Course literature
The course literature listed may be updated up to eight weeks before the course begins.
Course literature INFC80 (PDF, New tab)In the first part of the course, you will explore the strengths and weaknesses of traditional HCI through readings and discussions. This will help you develop your own informed views on how technology is created and used.
In the later, practical part of the course, you will take a hands-on approach inspired by art and design schools. You will work on short, intense design projects in close collaboration with your classmates. Instead of a traditional teacher-student setup, you will learn through discussions, critique sessions, and teamwork. This way, you will not only design for user needs but also gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between technology and its users.
You will demonstrate your knowledge through a literature seminar, design projects, and an individual essay.
By completing this course, you will enhance both your individual creative problem-solving skills and your ability to contribute to the professional and academic debate on the relationship between humans and computers.
