In this course, you’ll explore how research is done in the field of IS (Information Systems). You will explore the main research methods and how they’re used, engage in the debate between 'qualitatives' and 'quantitatives', and learn about different data collection methods and analysis techniques. You will also delve into foundational research philosophies, Design Science Research in IS, scientific quality and research ethics, and research writing.

Course literature INFN02 (PDF, New tab)The course includes lectures, guest lectures by both scholars and practitioners, interactive discussion seminars, and workshops. You will show your knowledge through group work during the seminars, which involves student-led lectures and literature summaries, as well as writing a final research proposal.
By the end of the course, you’ll know how to choose and use the right method and theory for your own research. These skills are fundamental to writing your master thesis and learning to become an independent researcher.
Prerequisites
Admission to the course requires English 6 as well as: a bachelor’s degree in informatics/information systems and further 30 cr informatics/information systems at advanced level or the equivalent.
