This course offers an in-depth exploration of Russian literary studies. You’ll read and analyse a selection of literary texts from different periods in Russian literary history – from 19th-century poetry to contemporary novels and film.

You’ll learn to interpret texts both linguistically and stylistically, and place them in their historical and cultural contexts. You’ll also develop your ability to discuss and analyse literature in a scholarly way – both in writing and in conversation.

The teaching is conducted through seminars and individual supervision. You’ll engage in close reading, analysis, and discussion with others, while also working independently on assignments.

The assessment includes 2–3 written assignments and 2–3 oral and/or written exams.

To be admitted to the course, the student must have 90 credits in Russian or have acquired the equivalent knowledge, as well as have completed studies in English equivalent to English B/English 6.

Selection criteria

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
