The course "World Literature and Intercultural Understanding" provides you with a deeper insight into how literature can promote understanding between different cultures. You will learn about the concept of world literature and its development from the 1800s to today. This course is relevant for those who want to work in international contexts or simply want to understand the world better through literature.

The teaching is conducted through lectures and seminars where you will discuss and analyse texts with your classmates. You will also have the opportunity to participate in group work and projects. 

The course consists of two parts:

1. The Concept of World Literature: Here, you will study various aspects of world literature, from Goethe to today's discussions. You will read and analyse important works within world literature.

2. Translation, Interpretation, and Transformation Processes: You will study works from different times and cultures with a focus on translation issues and their historical, economic, and cultural-political aspects.

 The course provides a good foundation for further studies in literature and cultural studies.

Prerequisites

90 ECTS credits in Comparative Literature, English, French, Spanish or Russian (or the equivalent).

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
