This Master's program concludes with an independent project in mathematical statistics. You’ll get the opportunity to explore a specific area in depth, apply advanced statistical methods, and demonstrate your ability to work scientifically, from idea to final report.
The course is worth 30 credits and corresponds to 20 weeks of full-time study. You will plan and carry out a project in collaboration with a supervisor. The project can be linked to ongoing research at the department or to a problem from a company or another organization. It can be conducted either within or outside the university, but always with an academic supervisor.
You will practice communicating your results both in writing and orally in English and in a popular science format. The course concludes with a public seminar where you present your work.
The course begins with you and your supervisor creating a study plan. It includes a project description, a problem analysis, and a clear timeline. Throughout the project, you will receive supervision and participate in mandatory sessions such as seminars and exercises in scientific and popular science communication.
You will conduct a literature review and do in-depth studies in your chosen area. When the project is complete you will write a scientific report in English and a short popular science summary. You will also present your work orally at a seminar.
The examination includes:
- an approved timeline
- participation in all mandatory sessions
- a written scientific report
- an oral presentation
- a popular science summary
- a brief reflection on your own learning
