Programme structure

On this page you will find detailed information about the programme structure for the two specialisations: Mathematics and Numerical Analysis.

Outline

The programme has a flexible structure consisting of compulsory, alternative compulsory and elective courses, allowing you to shape your own profile within Mathematics or Numerical Analysis. Most courses are offered once per year, making it important to plan your course choices well in advance. The alternative compulsory courses are selected from the advanced level mathematics and numerical analysis courses listed further down on this page under Year 1 and 2.

The elective courses give you the opportunity to broaden or deepen your studies. Courses in mathematical statistics are often a valuable complement, especially if you wish to strengthen your skills in modelling, data analysis or probabilistic methods.

Specialisation: Mathematics

  • 45 credits alternative compulsory courses in mathematics at advanced level
  • 45 credits elective courses, of which at least 15 credits must be in mathematics, numerical analysis or mathematical statistics; a maximum of 30 credits may be at bachelor’s level
  • Master’s thesis in Mathematics, 30 credits

Specialisation: Numerical Analysis

  • 15 credits compulsory courses: NUMN32 Numerical Methods for Differential Equations, 7.5 credits and NUMN27 Seminar Course in Numerical Analysis, 7.5 credits
  • 30 credits alternative compulsory courses in mathematics and numerical analysis (chosen from the course list further down on this page)
  • 45 credits elective courses, of which at least 15 credits must be in mathematics, numerical analysis or mathematical statistics; a maximum of 30 credits may be at bachelor’s level
  • Master’s thesis in Numerical Analysis, 30 credits
