In the course, you will explore how words acquire meaning, how language can describe the world, and how human language differs from that of animals and machines. You will reflect on the relationship between language and thought, what it means for an expression to be meaningful, and how words can refer to things in the world. You will also learn to use philosophical methods to analyse problems in the philosophy of language and to critically examine how different philosophical approaches are connected.
