In this course, you will have the opportunity to independently explore a topic within phonetics. You will learn to search for and critically evaluate information and compile your findings in a scientific thesis. The course is perfect for those who want to deepen their knowledge and prepare for a career in research or other areas where phonetics is relevant.

The course is offered on campus and cannot be followed remotely. The course is a part-time course, which corresponds to 20 hours per week, comprising self-study and individual supervision where you receive support and guidance from an experienced supervisor. The course concludes with you writing, presenting, and defending your thesis at a seminar. You will also critique another student's work, which gives you valuable experience in reviewing and discussing scientific texts.

After the course, you will have fundamental knowledge of phonetic methods and theories, as well as scientific theory and methodology. You will be able to independently identify and discuss scientific problems, conduct information searches, and analyse research material. These skills are valuable in many professional fields and for further studies.

Prerequisites

General entry requirements and LINA 15 (Linguistics: Level 1, 30 credits) and LINA24 (Advanced course in linguistics, 30 credits), LIND06 (Linguistics: Introduction to linguistic research methods, 7.5 credits) and LIND03 (Phonetics: Production's and perception theory, 7.5 credits) or equivalent knowledge.

Selection criteria

Seats are allocated according to: The general average (GPA) of your higher secondary school leaving certificate: 20 %, The Swedish national university aptitude test: 10 %, number of previous ECTS at application deadline (up to 165): 70 %.
