The course provides an overview of current research topics in subatomic physics, with a special focus on projects connected to Lund. You will follow the full research process – from planning and experimental design to data collection, analysis, and interpretation in relation to theoretical models.

You will learn about nuclear reactions, detector techniques, and how to extract and present information from scientific publications. The course trains you to read and understand research articles, analyse results, and communicate scientific findings both orally and in writing.

This course is ideal for students curious about how experimental and theoretical subatomic physics interact in modern research.

Teaching consists of lectures, assignments, and a project with seminar presentation. You will work with real research data and practise interpreting and presenting results in written reports.

Assessment is based on approved assignments, a project report, and an oral presentation. The final grade is determined by a weighted evaluation of these components. Active participation in the project and seminars is compulsory.

When and how to apply

Entry requirements

Admission to the course requires 75 credits in physics and 45 credits in mathematics, or a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Physics or equivalent - in both cases including knowledge equivalent to FYSB22 Physics: Basic Quantum Mechanics, 7.5 credits. General entry requirements and English 6/B.

Selection criteria

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
