This course provides an overview of thermodynamic and kinetic processes from a materials science perspective, with a focus on nanomaterials. You will study concepts such as phase equilibria, reaction kinetics, heat and mass transport, and how these are influenced by size effects at the nanoscale.
The course focuses on theoretical understanding, but we also discuss practical applications such as material synthesis and the use of materials in technical contexts.
Teaching takes place through lectures and exercises. During the exercises, you will apply thermodynamic and kinetic models to relevant material problems and examples from current research.
The course is suitable for students with a background in physics, chemistry or materials science.
Entry requirements
Admission to the course requires 90 credits in scientific studies, or a bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry or equivalent - in both cases including a course that contains at least 2.5 credits thermodynamics. Furthermore is required English 6/B and general entry requirements.

Seats are allocated according to: ECTS (HPAV): 100 %.
