Programme structure

The programme consists of two years of full-time study and includes both mandatory and elective courses.

Outline

In the first term, you will be introduced to ancient religion and the emergence of the three Abrahamic religions. Courses include The Study of Ancient Religion (15 ECTS) and The Emergence of Judaism, Christianity and Islam (15 ECTS), providing a foundational understanding of the religions’ historical development and shared context.

In the second term, you will delve into the sacred scriptures of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, and choose a language course in, for example, Greek, Latin, Hebrew, or Arabic. You will also select a course focusing on the interaction between the religions, which may cover topics such as ritual, law, or art.

In the second year, you will continue with a course on interreligious relations in both historical and contemporary contexts. You will also choose a text course focusing on a specific tradition – Jewish, Christian, or Islamic – and analyse texts in the original language. At the same time, you will participate in a thesis seminar to prepare your master’s thesis. The programme concludes with the writing of a 30 ECTS master’s thesis.
