Lund University uses a national application system run by University Admissions in Sweden (universityadmissions.se). It is only possible to apply during the application periods.
When to apply for Bachelor’s and Master’s studies
Check the entry requirements
Before starting your application, check that you meet the entry requirements for the programme you are interested in. You will find the requirements on the programme page.
Apply online
- Go to the University Admissions in Sweden website.
- Create an account and select programmes during the application period.
- Rank your programme choices in order of preference and submit them before the application deadline.

Country-specific requirements for Master's studies
Documents to submit
Prepare the following documents:
- official transcripts and degree certificate or proof that you are in the final year of your Bachelor's
- passport/ID card (all applicants) and
- proof of English language proficiency (all applicants).
If you've completed your Bachelor's in Sweden
If you have completed your entire Bachelor's programme in Sweden and all of your academic credits are listed in Ladok, you don't need to submit transcripts or your diploma when applying for a Master's programme.

Programme-specific document: Statement of Purpose
When applying for the Master of Science Programme in Social Anthropology, you also need to submit a Statement of Purpose with your application.
Your Statement of Purpose may not exceed 350 words and should address the following questions:
- How did your interest in the field of social anthropology arise?
- How do you think the Master of Science Programme in Social Anthropology will allow you to best explore that interest, or what are your main reasons for applying to the programme specifically?
- How do you expect the Master of Science Programme in Social Anthropology to complement or build on your previous studies and/or practical experience?
- How do you expect to bring forth the knowledge gained in the Master of Science Programme in Social Anthropology in your future plans?
Formatting note:
At the top of your Statement of Purpose, please write MASTER OF SCIENCE PROGRAMME IN SOCIAL ANTHROPOLOGY in capital letters, bold text and a larger font size. Apart from this heading and the instructions above, the programme does not require any specific template or structure.

Application fee and exemptions
As part of your application, you must pay the application fee – or provide proof of exemption – before the application fee deadline.
Note that your application will not be processed until you have paid the application fee or provided proof of exemption. Make sure you do this as early as possible.
Key dates and deadlines – universityadmissions.se
The application fee for non-EU/EEA citizens is SEK 900. You pay one application fee regardless of how many programmes (or courses) you apply for.
There is no application fee for citizens of:
- the European Union (EU)
- the European Economic Area (EEA) and
- Switzerland.
