SFSH60 is a full-time Swedish language course designed for complete beginners. You'll progress rapidly, and in just one academic year, you’ll gain the skills needed to study or work in Sweden. Whether you're aiming for further studies, a career in Sweden, or a language qualification for professional licensing, this course gives you a strong foundation.

No previous knowledge of Swedish is required, and we welcome students from all over the world.

A pass in Module 8 meets the Swedish language requirement for university admission in Sweden.

The course is taught on campus in Lund, with lessons 3-4 days a week. You’ll learn through:

  • interactive lectures
  • group work and discussions
  • practical language exercises
  • seminars and presentations.

Each lesson is built around real-life themes and includes communicative activities to help you use Swedish in everyday situations. You’ll also explore Swedish grammar, pronunciation, and writing techniques.

The course runs over two semesters (60 ECTS). To continue to the second semester, you must pass level 4 in the first semester.

By the end of the course, you’ll be able to:

  • understand Swedish in TV programmes, films, and lectures
  • read and analyse articles, reports, and literary texts
  • write clear, structured texts for academic and practical use
  • speak confidently in discussions and presentations
  • use Swedish in both formal and informal settings.

You’ll also have learnt about:

  • Swedish grammar and pronunciation
  • different styles and registers of Swedish
  • techniques for summarising and referencing
  • current topics in Swedish society and media
  • Swedish culture from an international perspective.

The assessment is based on written and oral exams at the end of each module.

After completing the course, you’ll have the Swedish proficiency needed for higher education and many professional roles in Sweden. A pass from level 8 is equivalent to Svenska 3 from Swedish upper secondary school or a passing result on the TISUS test.

This course is also suitable if you’re applying for a professional licence from the National Board of Health and Welfare, or if you want to build a future career in Sweden.
