Swedish Institute Academy for Young Professionals
Lund University has delivered training programmes within the Swedish Institute Academy for Young Professionals (SAYP) since 2014. These programmes target young policymakers, public servants, civil society representatives and professionals from relevant business organisations in selected countries across the Baltic Sea Region, the EU’s Eastern Partnership and the Western Balkans. They provide a platform for knowledge exchange, experience sharing and networking on public governance.
Previously offered programmes
In 2024, Lund University offered SAYP programmes in Western Balkans, the Baltic Sea Region and the EU Eastern Partnership. These are just a few of the many capacity development programmes university can offer.
The programme Green Transition for Low-Carbon and Resilient Societies brought together young professionals from the public and private sectors across Eastern Europe to advance the green transition. Through a collaborative learning process, participants strengthened their competencies to promote sustainable development and reduce carbon emissions in their respective contexts.
Guided by expertise from the International Institute for Industrial Environmental Economics (IIIEE) and Lund University Commissioned Education (LUCE), the programme combined knowledge exchange, practical application and peer learning. Participants explored strategies and tools to support the transition towards low-carbon and resilient societies.
The programme fostered cross-sectoral collaboration and equipped participants with the capacity to drive change, contributing to a more sustainable and climate-resilient future in the region.

The programme Perspectives on Multi-level Governance, Decentralisation and Human Rights brought together young professionals from the Western Balkans, the Baltic Sea Region and the EU Eastern Partnership.
Participants explored how decentralisation affected democratic processes and the distribution of power in society. Through expert-led sessions, group work and experience sharing, participants analysed these issues and related them to their own contexts.
The programme provided a forum for critical discussion and strengthened participants’ capacity to apply governance and human rights perspectives in practice.
