Life at Lund, Sweden

Lund University is based in the Skåne region of southern Sweden in Scandinavia, Northen Europe. Campus locations include Lund, Helsingborg, Malmö and Ljungbyhed. 

City of Lund

The main Lund University campus is located in the city of Lund, which is 15 minutes by train from Malmö (the third largest city in Sweden) and less than an hour from Copenhagen (Scandinavia’s largest city and the capital of Denmark).

As one of the oldest cities in Sweden dating back to 990, Lund is a city of contrasts where 1 000 years of history blend with modern knowledge and ideas. In Lund, you find the charm of a small picturesque, cobble-stoned city, side-by side with big city attractions such as services, shopping, restaurants and cultural events.  

The University is a strong influence on the city of Lund and several university buildings are located in the heart of the city. Sweden’s first and most successful research park, Ideon, is situated in Lund, and the country’s two largest research ventures, Max IV and ESS are to be located here. In 2011, three of the "Top 100 Global Innovators" named were Swedish companies based in Lund, reflecting Lund University's geographic location as a unique, world-class environment for technology, knowledge, innovation and entrepreneurship.

The students at Lund University comprise a large part of the population of the city and consequently have a significant impact on it and contribute to the youthful, laid-back atmosphere. The young population influences all aspects of life in Lund, from the daily rhythm of the city, to city planning, pubs and bars, museums and countless cultural and leisure activities. The combination of old traditions and history together with the bustling student life makes Lund a great place to live and study!

Lund Cathedral, dating from 1145, is one of the most popular attractions in the Skåne region and marks the centre of the city. It is easy to get around in the city and most people use bicycles for their daily transportation. In addition, there is a comprehensive public transportation system including buses and trains to transport you in and around Lund and the region. The Lund train station is the hub that connects Lund to Malmö and to other destinations in the region, as well as to the rest of Sweden and the international airport in Copenhagen.

City of Helsingborg

Campus Helsingborg is a new and important part of Lund University with close to 3 000 students. Situated in the cosmopolitan city of Helsingborg, one of Sweden's fastest-growing communities, the campus is in walking distance from the railway station and is 40 minutes by train to Lund.

The Department of Service Management, Department of Communication Studies, the School of Social Work and the Faculty of Engineering offer selected courses and programmes at Campus Helsingborg. 

City of Malmö

Malmö is the third largest city in Sweden and is situated 10 minutes away by train from Lund and 20 minutes away from Copenhagen Airport.

A large number of Lund University staff and students live in Malmö and commute to Lund. Many staff and students living in Lund often visit Malmö to enjoy its many shops, nightclubs and cultural and sporting events.

The city is also home to Lund University’s Faculty of Fine and Performing Arts, comprising the Malmö Academy of Music, the Malmö Art Academy and the Malmö Theatre Academy.

A significant proportion of the University’s medical training and research is done at Skåne University Hospital in Malmö. The hospital is one of the most important in Sweden, and is at the forefront of research and operations in a number of fields. 

Ljungbyhed 

Lund University's School of Aviation (LUSA) is located in Ljungbyhed, an hour's drive north of Lund. Lund University is one of the few universities with higher education in aviation.

Copenhagen

Copenhagen is located less than 1 hour from Lund and 35 minutes from Malmö. Copenhagen is the capital of Denmark and the largest city in Scandinavia. Copenhagen Airport is a major international hub for air travel with plenty of worldwide connections. There are frequent train connections from Lund and Malmö to Copenhagen Airport. The journey from Copenhagen Airport to Lund takes approximately 35 minutes.
